Although not actually a carving question, I figure that MANY of you have experience with this so I thought I'd ask. My closest, dearest friends oldest son and his wife are getting ready to start their family and I'd like to build and carve a crib for them. I'm awair that Woodcrafters has crib plans and hardware and am wondering how good they are? Is there anything better? (After all, if I'm going to put the time into carving the whole thing I want it to last through as many generations as possible.) Thanks in advance, Dave

I bought my hardware from Rockler. I 'spose hardware is hardware, cheaper metals for sure abound, I think if you get it and its got burrs and cheapy looking, send it back. Good for you building this. A real treasure for sure! Luck!

Dave: I think Rockler has good hardware, also. Whatever you buy, though, I'd recommend using a fine stone in your Dremel to round over the edges and corners of the hardware that the child might touch. Doesn't have to be a large radius round over - just enough so the child can't cut or scratch him/herself on it. Claude |

Woodsmith store here in Des Moines(Same people who publish Woodsmith Magazine) carries Rockler products. Whether you buy Rockler or not, if you do projects like this It would be good reference material to get online and order a Rockler catalog. Lots of hard to find hardware(including stuff you never imagined) available. Of course I do find those "wish books" make me need stuff I never knew I needed!Wink
