I started work'n on a this during the local woodcarvers git together. It's carved from a spruce that was grow'n in the neighbors yard. There must be an an unwritten law that voids will appear right where you don't want them.

When I made custom furniture out of salvaged wood I always told the customer that wood is not perfect. It will have voids, splits, knots, and streaks of different grain and color. I also told them that this is one of the differences between wood and plastic, or MDF. And of course I mentioned character. Other words were also mentioned, like unique, special, one of a kind, etc. OK, you get my drift! It's a wonderful carving. It's unique, special, one of a kind. And I'll just bet it'll be around for a real long time; giving lots of folks reasons to say just that. Great job Elwood.

Character...that's what it is..hmmmm. I couldn't quite put my finger. You all are just too kind. It's been a fun one though but I think I'm ready for some power tools. I've been getting parts for my air compressor and picked up an air hammer and die grinder. Meanwhile I will be looking for logs with a little less character.
