| | Asian Woodspirit A lady from back home sent me some specially made meat pies and home made mustard pickles at Christmas time as I didn't get home (PEI) during the holidays. This may not sound like a big deal but it was the highlight of my Christmas. To express my thanks, I'm bringing over a small woodspirit during my visit home as she really liked the one I gave my mother a while back. This little guy stands less than two feet, is made of birch and has one coat of oil on him so far. I played around with the eyes and it gave him an Asian look. I went with a #9 gouge for the beard and I used my parting tool for the mustashe. There's evidence of hair along the side but didn't have enough wood to make it amount to anything.

| | Re: Asian Woodspirit Patrick, I can see the Asian look on this one, really enjoy his nose coupled with the thinned down face/cheeks and the eyes top it all off to be Asian for me. Looks real good.
Speaking of Mustard Pickles, just opened a "Ball" jar full of them over the superbowl weekend, they were not a good as my moms, but when your 1300 miles from home (Nova Scotia), they do the job. Take care, Bill |

| | Re: Asian Woodspirit "little?"....a "little" under 2 feet?
He's got an attitude and an aged wisdom about him, and for me, that's a pretty big piece. Great eyes and nose.

| | Re: Asian Woodspirit Thor - I work with pretty big logs so under two feet is verily small for one of my carvings.
Thanks everyone. I am trying to experiment with my facial features a little more....and move away from the typical eyes and other attributes that seem consistent with my carvings....but I must say it is challenging as it comes with a certain amount of risk. Perhaps the next one will be different all together.
