Default Ash walking sticks

A few days ago I mentioned that I had undertaken a project to make walking sticks for a local senior nature walking group. The group is now up to 37. Egads! what have I got myself into? This could get expensive. So, I visited the local Union Fork and Hoe Handle Mill. They have seconds available for 25 cents each. They are Ash. I have discovered that cheap trumps carving ease. I spoke shaved the handles down to a smaller irregular diameter, carved a woodspirit, will add a strap and finish. This is the first one out of the Ash. Ash will not be my most popular wood to carve. Default Re: Ash walking sticks

Looks good, Tom! Is the ash requiring a lot more sharpening than basswood, or just a bigger hammer?
