A flamingo would be nice, but as noted earlier, who wants a pink cane???

Maybe a crane? Grey-white to slate grey in colouring.

Maybe this should be in WIP, but since we are talking about canes here is a staff I have just finished and Mary has just started painting. First one I have ever done and is carved from Alder. The top is a knot from a Sugar Pine tree and the joining band is a silver napkin ring.

Very nice Doug,
When I was a kid, I burned a lot of pine knots in campfires. There were all kinds of them in our area. They burned real good. Years ago, the loggers clearcut, & burned this area of Northern MN, & thats about all they left were the Pine Knots.
I've been looking at images of Pelicans, but haven't seen any that would fit my project yet.

Post Re: Any ideas for a Cane head?

Hi,
I've been searching for animal images for my cane topper, & found this interesting website. It's about lifespans of different animals. It has some very nice images.

We have two Co-caine heads living across the street. But not for long!

Hey Dick,
I see a mouse peeking out of that hole, like he's watching for the cat.

To me, it looks like a camel with his head up. Maybe add some reins for detail.

Thanks folks,
Keep the ideas coming, because I'm letting the wood dry before I start the carving.
