Default Another update on panel

Things have been going pretty good I think with the panel. I have been working on of the deer and back & foregrounds. Slowly it's starting to come together!

I don't know how you keep it so clear and clean while you are working on it. Wonderful details coming out, and I think your leaves are terrific.

Lot of material to remove, but then doing it by hand you get to know the woods features so well, and that gives you so much nicer control and results, You are doing great, those bucks are coming alive in that scene, and I love the framing od leaves. Really well done. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your progress with us.

I've been watching your panel progress. The leaves in the foreground really brings depth the the deer in the back. It gives the viewer the appearance that your looking through some branches to see the action. Should be quite a piece when its finished...and a lot of work.

Ok have to admit. My studio was cleaned yesterday! LOL When I end up with chips in the house,it's time to clean! The deers body still needs more work and since he's in the foreground I have lots to remove. I cleaned the areas more to get it out of the way. I was only going to do a few inches...then just kept going. But it does help to keep me on track and having it look like your looking like a deer hunter would if he was sitting in a treestand. Guess it's working! Thanks for the comments. It is alot of work. But relaxing and I am just playing around wanting to do this. It's not a commission so the only pressure on me is getting it to be what I visioned. I haven't yet decided how I am going to hang this huge piece! Anyone that has done panels would love some suggestions. I had thought of drilling holes in the top corners and add leather straps. But if I sell it they may not want it that way. Well I have time to figure what to do.

I'm sorry! I thought I had said. It's 33 inches tall by 29 inches wide and 2 inches thick before I started carving.

Krum,

I'd suggest that you router two "key-hole" slots with centers 16" apart in the back before you go too much further. That's what I do for my seascape relief cravings, and they hang flush with the wall. (16" is the standard wall stud center distance apart) Router them about 1" or 2" down from the top edge. That's a lot of weight, so you better make sure that when the screws are mounted on the wall, that you get them right into the stud well.

What they have done for years on large, in fact most oil paintings, is put a screw eye in each side and use the stranded picture wire, put it thru the screw eye and put a granny knot in it, then twist the excess wire around itself...put the wire to the other side without a lot of slack, just a little and do the same, it will hold a "bunch" of weight and last for years and years. imho
