| | Re: another staff Oh so you know the story about the dragon staff .
The first carvings I ever did was dragons. So the dragon staff Has been growing and changing since I started doing them .
The first dragon staff I did was for Clayton. The second for his brother Eric. The third was for Goody.
These three friends of mine help developed the staff.
I have never met anyone with the stength and courage of Clayton. A young man whom I greatly admire. Eric his brother is his protector always looking out for him. Goody , is a teacher and a guide one that has always given me direction and help guide me down this path. So as the story goes: The dragon staff The dragon has always been a sign of great strength in mythology. In the eastern world it represents good luck and good fortune. In Europe it was often feared but always given respect for its great strength and knowledge. For me when I started carving it was the beginning, of my carvings. On the staff, he is the protector, the guardian of the staff and the keeper of the staff. He shall never fail to watch over the steps of the keeper, and protect him from harm. The center face on the staff is always turned to watch out for the keeper of the staff, to always look outward for the things we can not see. The lower face upon the staff is always turned to look ahead , close to the ground to guide the steps and to look ahead , often hidden as the path we take is not always clear for us to see, he is still there looking ahead. They are three friends, friends to walk with you and to remind you, you’re never alone.
Clayton is the dragon .
Eric is the center wizard
Goody Is the greenman .
That is how the staff started and why it is designed as it is.

| | Re: another staff Thanks Thor.
I did the greenman and the staff is almost finished. I am going through to balance it now so it will stand on it's own.
Anyway here is the update and after seeing Ron's and Marci's I feel like a real slacker .
Ron , I have used a combination of leaves to form the greenman. The majority are oak leaves and he is completly hidden and in the round. You have to really look to see him or all you see are the oak leaves.

Well just updates , should finish it tomorrow if I can steal a few mins at work.
Anyway , the Greenman is done.
Ron,
I have balanced the staff where it will stand up on it's own. The bottome of the staff I turned into a tree that run up into the leaf cover of the green man. The Front of the greenman I used a leaf pattern to which I added hair lines into the beard.
Above the leafs to seperate the staff I added an acorn. This seperates the twist from the center section . |
