The dragon is roughed out , and since I am getting ready to leave for a few days I thought I would give a few udated pics.

The mahogany is a real learning experence. But nice to work with.

Great piece of carving. The stance is amaizing, and the whole body just flows. Can't wait to see it detailed.

Susan you just love Knots !

Bob Thanks, it is a bit different than the first but the wood is stronger so I can be more inventive .

Colin , Heading to Ind. Stopped to get my tools and check the board. Comming back through Dayton so I can see the show on the way. Keep them safe mate.

As usual nothing in my life seems to work , excatly how it is planned. But now my son will be going with me to the show so should be a great trip. Not had a lot of time to work on the staff , but I did finish the center face .

Ron

The face is old the cheeks are low to the beard line. The Hair on the top of the head under the hat is center split and runs to both sides where it returns to the hat. The eyes are pocketed from the cheeks ( something new for me) The Beard is layered to the left and layered down and around to the left . The hair is pulled back in strands alongside the head to the back of the head , where it forms into a braid to run down the staff. The beard is spereated by a collar which holds the braided hair away from forming with the beard. It as well twisted to the left of the staff.

Ash that is a great staff. Wonderful face really like the way you have presented it. Are you just doing the carving that you have so far or have you anything else planned for the staff?

Thanks Tom.

Colin, this one is really rather large just over 6 ft. To releive some of the weight I am adding some tightly curlled twist under the center face. I am thinking about adding a second dragon curled around the bottom I have not yet decided it it would look right , if not there will be a greenman at the lower section.
