Hi Everyone! I want to thank you all again for checking out my last post and for all the great comments and critiques! I apologize for posting another religious carving and if anyone is offended. My wife really liked the last carving of Mary I did and wants me to do one for her. Since her B-day is coming up and our 4 year anniversarry is also coming up I decided to start on this carving. I know this is our lady of the streets and you may have seen it before. This is my version of it. I had alot of free time this pat weekend so I started roughing it out. It's a piece of basswood about an inch thick and 15 or so inches high (I haven't actually measured it yet) So here is what I have so far. I hope you like it and I'll post more pictures as I progress. Thanks Again everyone! I value all your opinions. Joe

Hi Joe, Nice work so far! I've worked with those basswood "slices" only a couple times, and have found them very frustrating to carve, as the grain keeps changing direction. Keep the tools sharp! Mark |

Hi Everyone! Thank you all so much for the great comments, you all inspire me to keep going even though I'm not too happy with how things are turning out. Mark you were right about the grain being tricky, mostley I keep trying to fix mistakes I'm making as I go along. I started to work on the eyes a bit and a little on the hands. Here's what I have so far, I hope you all like it. Joe
