| | And the sun doth shine... I made this for a good friends birthday. This one was more like a relief, which I've never done before. I liked everything about it except for the mouth. Just couldn't get it the way I wanted it. This one is from a Shawn Cipa design.
Critique are welcome.
Thanks. |

| | Re: And the sun doth shine... By the size of those chips he looks like he could fit in your hand, am I right? That's a nice carving - great expression. His features suits Mr. Sunshine very well.

Thanks for the compliment!!
Just came back from giving him to my dear friend. She was extatic, hung him up right away. |

| | Re: And the sun doth shine... This is one of those cases where the carver is dissatisfied with the results but everyone else who see it like it. I heartily agree with Irishman. You have carved a character with a real sense of fun about it.
I would hang it on my wall.

| | Re: And the sun doth shine... I'd love to take credit for it, but the original design, like I said, was from a Shawn Cipa design. I've got some ideas that are my own, but for now I'm working on designs from books, at least until I've got my technique down. Thanks for the compliments though. It keeps me going. |

| | Re: And the sun doth shine... Started out as a 2" thick piece. The pattern called for 1 1/2" but I didn't have any wood that size, so I made do. Remember he's only about 6" or so in diameter. If you're going to make one for out side on your barn I'd guess it would have to be at least twice that size. You'd probablyy be able to do it at 3" thick I'm guessing. Good luck, and do post pics when you're done! |
