| | And another This should be showing up soon for restoration. No,,,it's not a new carving,,but to restore it there is much to be done. I think it's pretty neat looking. Plus I like the challenge. I'll match the finish and re-do all the gold leafing. Send the painting out for cleaning. Hey,,,it's work,,,and it comes in all forms. |

| | Re: And another Without taking too much time from your day job, what specifically needs to be done to this frame?
Do you replace entire sections? just take finish off and clean it?
Thanks,

| | Re: And another Thanks guys,,
You can't really see it in the photos but there are major sections missing from this frame. This piece is really two layers,,the face you see is really mirrored again just below this surface separated by a deep cove. Three of the corners on this lower section are missing so I'll have to either carve a new corner,,cast it and fit them into the missing sections,,or try and pull a cast off one of the complete corners ( without doing more damage) and make pieces that way. Then match the main color and finish it off with the gilding. Most of these old frames are plaster which makes them fairly delicate,,that's why several sections like this are missing.
It's not really carving as such,,just another avenue for things to do that presents itself with fun challenges.
Part of the reason I post these odd ball things is because it sort of ties in with other posts I've commented on about finding work and making money. I just met the owners of a frame shop 2 weeks ago,,since then they have sent me 2 crucifixes to get repaired/refinished and now this piece. And this is only one of dozens of these shops around this area. And the interesting thing is one of the cross repairs led me to an Orthodox church that is in need of carving work as it's being remodeled. It still amazes me how one silly little thing can lead to what you really want and didn't know existed. Just look for the crack in the door,,that's enough of an opening to let yourself in. |

I like the looks of some of the old frames. This style is one of my favorites! This looks like a little more managable project that the other one. I can see an end to this one. LOL Please, if you would be so kind, post the finished end product. I know it will be perfect!
