You have a muche better first carving than mine.
Heck yes get the new tools, and the coping saw and workmate would be an excellent addition to your mini workshop.

One thing I've learned to do is carve into a box. I have an old pop bottle crate, the kind you used to see in the store for the 16oz bottles. I put a cardboard bottom in it and carve with it on my lap. Sure the occasional chip will get away but with it I can carve in my recliner and listen to TV.

It really is a nice fox, Mischief. Lots of complex angles and curves. Were it mine I would add a few detail "gouge" cuts to te tail and some parts of it to make the mind think of fur rather than plastic. But like others have already said, that is your call. And I agree with others - decide to be finished. Think of good things you will do on the next one.

A carving is done when YOU want it to be. I personally never sand anythiing, but I carve caricatures and like to see if I can get the cuts to work for me.
