Awkk! Poly want a cracker? I love the cane. Did you lay it out from a pattern or are you one of those gifted individuals who can lay something like that out right from their head?

Thank you for the encouragement folks. The cane will look better once it's painted, I hope, and I am very much looking forward to the results. I have been admiring the work of the great bird carvers on here and am trying to improve my skills by following some of their ideas. They make it look so easy!

Eddie... I don't use a pattern, but develop my own from photographs of the object, in this case a Peregrine Falcon. I like the open beak attitude, it looks more animated and alive. It does make the cane more susceptible to injury if dropped, but that only gives me an excuse to carve another!

Great job on the woodburning. I love the cane - mahogany is my favorite wood.
