Default Advice needed, first attempt at natural finish!

I am doing this mountain man out of cottonwood bark. The wood is so beautiful I am planning on letting him 'natural', no painting. My only question is the eyes. I'm not wild about the 'carved out' eyes ususally done on natural wood carvings, my thought was to paint the eyes in the colors of the wood itself.

I have one coat of tung oil on him, then I painted the eyes, (not the 'whites', I'm letting them the natural wood color) he needs a couple more coats of tung oil plus the Crystal Cote I use on all my eyes.

What do you think, honestly, is he going to look right with just his eyes painted in like this or doesn't it look right?

I just don't know, probably because I use so much paint on my carvings. I sure would appreciate your opinions! Thanks! Deborah

It's excellent as is! Maybe crystal cote the eyes a bit, but otherwise it is fantastic so far!

That is not only impressive, it's SPOOKY! Can you imagine walking down a wooded trail and finding him staring at you from around a rock ledge? WOW!

Hey Sis, great carving! Remember this one? I didn't like him with natural eyes either but didn't really want to paint him so this was my solution.....
