MeINM,
Pot holder is actually a pot LID holder that I made to fill a gap when we bought a smaller kitchen stove. Kenny helped me figure out what he was talking about. I was thinking Hot pads. Senior thing I guess.

Got a question. It's is actually a little bit over 8 feet tall and by the time I figure a frame to help stabilize and display the piece I'll have to add a frame. Now it's well over the standard size of most folks ceilings. Would you make it fit most folks houses or to heck with it, make it full length. I had thoughts of hanging it from a hook from a tall ceiling or even putting it on a plow disc and pin so it would rotate. At this point in time I not planning on cutting it back. It will make it harder to sell, if I chose to do that, but again my thought is "to heck with it".

| | Re: 8 foot sunflower Hi Bob,
I'm pleased to see the updated photos of your project. Please post close ups of the way you did the seed head I would love to see how you tackled that. Also of the back of the flower. Your way of handling the detail in what looks like a 3/4" (or is it thicker?) piece of wood both front and back are to be "holy cow commended!" again.
I would also guess that it is actually white pine, judging from the color, instead of yellow pine. White pine is a lot easier to carve so that is a good thing. Yellow pine is what 2 x 6's are for framing a house usually. It really sucks to carve.
I wouldn't cut it down an inch, but I live with tall ceilings, and don't care for 8 foot ones. That is certainly a personal choice. I think it will look award-winning at any length.
Great carving.
