I love the way you do historical pieces. It makes them very special. The shine may be exaggerated by the photo. It is really hard to get to get just the "right" amount of "life" in the paint...too much and you can't see into the details.....too little and it looks dead. We all keep trying. As always, you have a wonderful piece. |

I spent yesterday afternoon sanding. Using the Foredom with a couple of different burrs (light sanding/polishing ones) I removed most of the finish from the areas that I wanted, the tunic, blue bonnet and kilt. I was able to get most of what I wanted off and repainted those areas, so today I'll see how it dried up. I'll apply a finish more carefully this time, using a flat or satin finish, instead of the semi-gloss that I had used in the first place. I'll let you know how it turns out. Bob PS: as to the question of: How did they fight in those kilts? From what I've read of the history and from what I've seen of our Canadian Highland Regiments, they wear those likts proudly and little things like weather don't seem to bother them unduly! In the mid Victorian years, they developed trousers (tarten of course) that also could be worn on campaigne. They we a tough lot those Highlanders and proud of it.
