Just finished painting these 3 old men. Anybody got a good solution to how you get rid of ALL of the fuzzes. You sand, fine tune etc., etc. and then when you put on that coat of paint - "Their Back". I guess it comes with experience and I'm still learning. Comments and suggestions always welcome. Thanks for looking. Chuck

Chuck, great elves. As for the fuss - I never have that problem with basswood if that's what your carving. Perhaps go with a fine grit sandpaper next time. Patrick |

Patrick. Maybe that's the reason. I started carving these out of poplar before I got my order of basswood from Heinecke. I told you I was still learning. Thanks, Chuck

Hey Chuck nice work, did you use a water based finish for the sealer or painting? this might cause what your calling fuzzies. I never have any problems with them unless I use water base, then it will raise the grain some. Carl

Hey Chuck, I think you did a fine job on these seasoned fellows. They look super to me. Here's everything I've been told about getting rid of the dreaded fuzzies. 1. Sand them out with fine sand paper 2. Make a "mop" of fine strips of sand paper on a dremel mandrel 3. Scrub the carving down with those Scotch Brite pads. 4. Brush the carving with a small brass bristled brush 5. Scrub the carving with MEAN GREEN cleaner and water with a denture brush 6. Hit em with those Scotch Brite Radial Bristle Discs. 7. Scrape them away with the point of your knife 8. Use a tapered dental burr in your WeCheer to get them And my all time favorite! Learn to carve better, and you won't have fuzzies. I don't endorse any of these. This is just what different folks have told me. Tom H |
