Hi everyone, I've been away for awhile, but I'm back again now. I have 2 projects on the go right now. One of them is a bear in Cottonwood Bark. I found a supply of bark that is about 3 inches thick with some pieces actually a little thicker so I decided to try something different instead of wood spirits. The second piece is a lioness in butternut. This is my first attempt with butternut and once I figured out how to work with the wood I'm quite enjoying it. I think I'll just stain this girl instead of painting it as the grain is so nice. I just bought some mahogany and I thought I would try some figures in the round with it. Wonderful work, Ms Lindy! butternut is a delightful wood to work and it has a beautiful golden silver coloring that really shows the grain when you use an oil finish. Susan |

Hi Susan, Thank you! I was planning on either using a clear stain or waxing. What oils would I use? |

I love Danish Oil Finish ... it's a standard around the studio. On butternut I also often used linseed oil cut by about one third turpentine. The turp lets you put on very thin coatings. Linseed oil tends to yellow some over time and that yellowing really enhances the golden tones of the butternut. Susan |

Hey Lindy very, very nice work I remembered seeing the lioness in one of your albums. I've sculpted in clay but never carved an animal in wood, but hope to one day. I like the Danish Oil took Susan's recommendation from one of her e-projects. I really like it brings out the richness of the wood grain. Kathy
