Default 2 inch Gnome

After completing this little Gnome, I noticed that my whittlin/carving style might have evolved to about half way between flat plane and the more traditional rounded carving. Or maybe I am just at a transition between the the two. Anyway, I still like to carve/whittle small, and am having lots of fun.

Comments, suggestions, and help are always welcome. Thanks!

Tom H

Hi Tom H,

As always, a very nice, tiny carving. I've been thinking about trying something like your carving. They look challenging but fun.

Thumbs up Re: 2 inch Gnome

Tom my friend .. you are a whittlers whittler ... Your simple projects with only a knife are what whittling is all about ..

besides being wonderful to look at .. they teach us that complex isnt always the best ..

Its little projects like this that reminds us of our grandfathers whittling out on the porch and how with the simpliest of tools .. you can create a great looking figure to keep or give away ..

Your 5 minute wizard was a hit with the u -tube videos and I got messages from all kind of beginners world wide asking for more of projects like this to get started ..

Thanks Tom for keeping us with the simplier things in carving ..

Gene

Gene...can we get a copy of the 5-minute wizard video to post on our site?

Ok Tom, now you have given me something else to try. I like to work small as well. Your little guys have been a great inspiration for me, as well as Gene's video series. Between the two of you have given me lots of confidence.

Ron T, Robert C, Buckskin: Small things like this 2 inch Gnome are fun to put in your pocket with your pocket knife and take anywhere to work on. You don't make much mess either.

Keoma: Since these are small, they tend to be fast to whittle. I may take your suggestion and incorporate them into a ribbon on some special Christmas gifts.

Elwood: The next 2 inch Gnome is yours. Payback for the cottonwood bark you sent me several years ago.

Kathy: Thanks, my next one will be painted with water colors.

Gene: Thanks Gene. I don't know whether you mean that the Gnome or I reminds you of what a grandfather would whittle. Either way, they are both compliments.

Bob: I am always looking to come up with an easy, fast, small project to introduce the new carver to. My goal is to get a project into the beginners hands that they can handle, and complete in one carving session. And when completed, will cause them to say "yesh! I didn't know I could do that".

Thanks all!

Tom H
