Default Wood that's hard as a rock

If you are working too hard cutting wood in a small project try spraying the area being carved with a 50:50 mixture of alcohol (ethyl not bourbon) and water. No need to wait for it to soak in, just resume carving. Be sure to label the spray bottle.

That process works great just make sure the hand holding the wood has no cuts. Ouch !!

Let me add this .Spray the carving well. When finished carving for the day put it in a plastc bag and tie it up .THat way it does not dry up.Spray when needed.

I think you may have meant isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or de-natured alcohol. Bourbon is ethyl alcohol with a few extra ingredients for flavor and color.
