Default WCI Portable carving bench

Here is the one I built from plans in the last issue of Wood Carving Illustrated. I used a 2x10 that I had and substituted a piece of plywood for the seating area. I used my version of the poor man's carving vise and mounted it on the upright instead of in the tray area. It seems to work equally well in this position and I don't worry so much about tools in the tray banging into the vise. Lots of room for tools and it is quite comfortable with a stadium cushion on the seat. And it is very sturdy and stable for carving. It also folds up nicely for transporting.

Neat idea Mike. Fold-able and portable. I'm still investigating a portable bench that can handle mallet work.

Nice job Mike. I was finally able to find the locking rear leg braces, and will now get at one. My intensions are to also use the poor mans vice like you did. Now that it is warming up in the garage it makes for a better time.I will let you know how it turns out.

Carve On,
