Default Travel Case

Got case at Lowes it measures 13 by 18 inches the bottom compartments are adjustable, made the panels from left over shower stall material used elastic and rivets, it has served me better than anything i have tried before.Make most of my knives from old old hickory kitchen knives the metal holds a edge very well.I like the metal in flex cut gouges but the handles are not comfortable in my hand i replaced them with home made ones that works better for me.

Larry great looking tool case, I like what you did to the flexcut tools and also what you did to the micro-carving tools.

Larry I had someone describe your case to me and I had a question. On the compartments area where you have tools laying loose what keeps them from banging and rattling when you carry it. I didn't know if you cut styrafoam to fit the areas and used that to hold them down . Just wondering other wise good case.

Ron:
It looks like an aluminum briefcase from the outside. Inside, the bottom looks to be lined with plastic in which vertical grooves are placed about every 1/2 inch or so on all four sides. He also has some dividers that that have the same grooves in each side so two long dividers can fit their "tenons" into the "mortise" grooves on the sides and make different compartments. There are also some shorter dividers that go between the longer ones, to make smaller compartments. He has his knives, scorps, pencils, compass, Flexcut strop, etc. in these compartments.

Sitting on top of these is a lift out panel that has what looks to be a stretchy white band 1/2 inch across that is pop-rivited to the panel so that it makes a series of loops across the width of the panel. He has chisels and gouges tucked into these loops. He has also replaced his Flexcut gouge handles with longer, cylindrical, ones. And he's put his Dockyard micro gouges into fatter handles, which have a different number of grooves around the butt end to differentiate them from each other at a glance. The lid also has a panel in it with the same sets of stretchy cloth loops to hold more gouges and some knives.

Hope this helps.
Claude

Thanks for the description Claude. I had a friend give me an earlier one but his wasn't quite as precise as yours. I used to use one like it but never had it rigged like his. Sounds like he has a great idea.

I can't say what Larry's was orginally but mine looks like that it is houseing a couple of pistols I shoot with a lot. I was wondering if another one would work for knives and gouges with a little revamping and now I see that it will.

Thanks Larry for posting you case.
