This is an idea passed to me by Fred Stenman. www.stenmanstudios.com It's a simple way to transfer a pattern to your wood. Get a sheet of "overhead transparency projection material" from an office supply. Ipicked up 3 sheets for $1.29. Using a regular inkjet printer, print your pattern onto the clear sheet. Then hold the printed sheet, inkside down on your board and simply rub the backside of the sheet with your finger, a coin, or any fairly smooth object. The pattern will transfer to the wood...no heat or high pressure needed. And when you are done, spray the inked sheet with window cleaner and wash the remaining ink right off. The material is then ready for your next patter. It WORKS! I just tried it. No carbon paper mess, no tracing, no heat. Al |

I don't know exactly what you mean by a "regular" printer......if it's not an old dot matrix and not a lazer printer and uses ink cartridges, it will work. If you use a thermal printer, I have no idea how it would work, but I have my doubts. Let me know how anyone who tries it does...mine worked just fine. Al |

Now you all know I ain't too smart about this computer stuff ..... BUT "Using a regular inkjet printer, print your pattern onto the clear sheet. Then hold the printed sheet, inkside down on your board and simply rub the backside of the sheet with your finger, a coin, or any fairly smooth object." Print my pattern? How do I get my pattern into the printer? My pattern is drawn on plain old graph paper. If you answer - please talk slow and use simple words

| instead of the word "regular" I should have said one with ink cartridges. Yep, that is what I have. Will give it a try. DM |

What I use these days is a multi-functions printer like this ![]() It makes things a lot easier because you don't even need a computer to use it and can just photocopy your drawing and resize it at the same time if you need to. But you can use it like a normal ink-jet printer anytime. They are a lot cheaper to buy than before and are easier to use too. Gilles

Are you using transparency film designed for inkjet printers or regular transparency film designed for use with markers? Also are you printing your patterns reversed?

Thanks Giles .... I wondered about my scanner (which will not work setting on the floor of a closet in the other room) Sharynideas - thank you for asking that question. I wondered if I did as instructed a Santa could turn out holding something in his left hand instead of right.
