Susieq: Sorry for the late response. I've got brushes in my tray that are constantly used but are several years old. I don't reform them every time but when I notice them getting thick around the ferrel I'll run them through the hairspray and soap treatment then resoak them with hairspray and form them back to their original shape. Usually the only time I toss a brush is when the tip has been worn away through use. If you remember when you first bought a brush they are usually coated with some kind of coating to hold them to their point. Hairspray will do the same thing.

Thank you Lynn, I must try this. Brushes are a huge investment and when you buy good ones, you want them to last..... |

You're certainly right there! My brushes don't suffer from lost shape they expire when the tips are completely worn off!

A coating of "lard oil" will keep the brushes in shape...doesn't dry and easy to rinse out....without some kind of oil, the bristles will dry out and fall out.......don't ask me how I know!

Lynn your method works great, thanks, tried it on several brushes that were building up paint and the hair spray and soap worked wonders, thanks for the tip.

I've got some paint brushes that are over 20 years old--and with good cleaning/shaping care, they're still doing the job. Course I've got some cheap ones that I use for scrubbing , antiquing, drybrushing, etc. Donna T
