Well i was thinking of trying to make a full body wolf carving.. Only thing is i want to make it about a foot long.. I have tried different ways to rough things out before,Just to get to its out rough general shape ect.. I Dont really wanna use a chainsaw though.. But u know everything i carved so far takes me forever just to make the shape.. What would be the quickest way and power tool to use just to get the wood chips flying? just the basic form and shape of the wolf? I can draw well and paint not bad i got the great idea to apply my skills it to wood. Hopefully i can make it work with out spending days just tryin to get the shape of the carving done..There is a trick to everything in this world so let me know. Hell if all goes well i will make the whole dang Wolf pack. Thank You WoodFISH Last edited by woodfish; 11-10-2008 at 02:30 PM. |

There are a number of products made for angle grinders, I think ya would go through alot of drills. They are made to drill holes not be used as grinders, I think they wear out fast when used in that manner. Look up king arthur tools, and arbortech I think makes some grinder accesorios that might help. Carl

If you go with the KA tools remember to ALWAYS LEAVE THE GUARD ON THE GRINDER! and to adjust it as stated on the KA site.

O yeah forgot about that, the chips can really do a number on your arms as they shoot off. Carl

Removing waste wood is a big problem, my least favorite part of carving! I have a riser on my bandsaw and can cut pieces up to 14 inches thick. I draw the pattern on both front and side views. I cut out the front, saving the pieces and tape them all back together, jigsaw puzzle style. Then cut out the side view. After that I use the reciprocating handpiece (works like a power chisel) on my MasterCarver to remove more waste. Then I switch to the Stealth handpiece and use rotary to remove even more waste wood and to round everything out. THEN, the fun part starts, the hand carving! Good luck with the wolf! Deborah
