Default Thumb Guard -Detail Knife

After trying leather guards and others this is one i started using made from medical elastic that adheres to it's self and two layers of duck tape after using it a few times it will form to your thumb when the tape wears just peal it off and replace it. I am including a photo of a detail knife i made from saw blade made for cutting metal. For me it has a better angle than my Lyons it holds an edge very well.

Nice looking knives, Larry. I've made a couple knives using a reciprocating saw blade. You're right, they hold an edge very well. Neat idea on the thumb guard, too. I use a similar technique. Those leather and elastic thumb guards are useless after a couple minutes.

Wow Larry, I am impressed. And, glad to see someone else that enjoys a hooked blade too!

I'll have to make a thumb guard like that.

How did you anchor the blade in the handle? It looks like a good workable knife.

Great job!

Larry...I really like the knives!!! I've never used a 'hook blade' before but it sure looks like it would do the trick for some of my carving problem areas... Will have to make one something like that myself too! Thanks!

Mr. Sashadoc I drill two holes the width of the blade end about 1 to 11/2 inch deep with the grain of the handle on drill press use the bit end to work out the material between the holes then glue in the blade with epoxy.

Thanks to all for the comments

Larry
