 Re: thumb guard those finger guards are called "finger cots" if you go to an office supply, they might work if you could get a large one and put it over the end of your glove  my glove doesn't seem to wear at all, except for the left thumb? So I have been putting a piece of an old gloves thumb over this thumb and wrapping with that medical tape that sticks to itself....seems to well really well....
