I was at Harbor Freight Tools yesterday and ran across a terrific bargain on super glue gel. 3 Pack for 99 cents. ![]() If you've ever been in the middle of a project and have had that horrifying moment when out of nowhere an itty bitty piece just decides to jump out of your carving (seemingly destroying hours of work) then you need this stuff. It's fantastic for fixing those nasty little accidental chip outs, and never hurts to have some on hand. I bought four packs (12 tubes) yesterday for about fifty cents more than I usually pay for ONE tube at the store. |

The only problem I've found with the gel is that it takes some time for it to set up. I have to hold the pieces together for some time to get it to stick. I've heard that a spritz of water applied to the glue will make it set a lot quicker but I haven't had to glue anything since I heard about it, so I'll give it a try next "OOPS".

Kate... Another problem that I've been made aware of with the Harbor Freight Super Glue is shelf life. I usually stick to Locktite but a friend of mine in Tennessee uses HF and occasionally he finds them dried out when he opens them up.

As with ANYthing that comes from across the pond, I suppose there would be some quality control issues to deal with. The reaason I got all excited about this is not only the price but - as much as I love the LocTite brand - the little dispenser that it comes in is a PITA and it doesn't dispense all of the product unless you tear it apart to get to the tube. ![]() I'll let you know if this stuff is worth it or not. For a buck a pack if only one tube in each one is good I'm still about $9 to the good. Last edited by Kate; 11-13-2010 at 04:56 AM. |

Kate, I used to sell quite a bit of the different "super" glues, we were told to keep them in the refrigerator for a much longer shelf life, and it does seem to prolong the drying out that was referred to. Don't know about water, but with the gel, you can get an accelerator spray, there are kits made for the rear mount mirror falling off the windshield, you apply the glue to the metal piece that holds the mirror on and spray the windshield were you want it to stick, and better have it right first time, its stuck when it touches. I like to use the gel for that reason, apply the glue to the two pieces, no hurry to put them together, then a quick spray after they are in position and its done, they're bonded. I sold some of the thin last month to a furniture restorer and upholsterer, he says the thin wickes down in the crack, he clamps it together and has success using it in that manner. Laughing at my mistakes, I've glued my fingers to the wood with the thin more than it held the wood together in my using it. Earl

Hobby Lobby has a super glue (thin, medium, thick) that works very well. For 28 grams the cost is less than $5 and with the 40% off coupon it is less than $3. Loktite at Walmart is 10 grams for $2.77. dampen the wood prior to pressing the parts together, add the glue and it will stick. Dick

Earl I have two master craftsmen up the mountain, they both keep their CA in the refrigerator and I buy my CA from them, and I keep mine in the refrigerator, no trouble with it drying up so it must work.
