| Super glue finish build along - Hunt Chat I just found this site by accident and thought perhaps some knife makers may find it interesting

Bob, that's a good tutorial. Thanks for posting it. I know a handful of knifemakers that use this type of finish regularly. I've never tried it myself though.

Thanks Bob, That is interesting, and may have to give it a try, I don't care for his brush though. It did make me chuckle. Tom |

Tried it on a few of my turned pens. It was easy enough but I didnt like the palstic feel it gave the wood. I went back to shellac and the Beal Buffing system.

5 minitue epoxy works even better. Mix it up, rub it on, wipe it off. Leaves a great, durable finish that is practically inpregnable to dirt or oil from your hands. I use it on all of my knives that I sell and use myself. It's also a satin finish and not a high gloss that in my opinion detracts from the beauty of the wood.

Very neat finish. I have a buffalo skinner that I just finished. Will have to try that and the 5 min epoxy on the handle.

There are a lot of things I wipe with that type of brush, but I don't think I would try Super glue. I could see me whittling away the wood after it was stuck to my " brush" Neat tutorial though. Sean |

I have made a few pens but cannot get anywhere near the gloss one of my Mentors and friend gets. But strangely, the Satin -Semi gloss I do get is liked by a few people who do not like the Plastic gloss look. I have never thought about putting them on a subject that was not on a lathe, because that is once applied I believe you have to buff and polish the finish which is a lot easier when the object is being revolved by a lathe. I have used CA or Super glue on pens and jewelry for some time. It holds up much better against body oils and salts than most all your regular wood finishes. This is a pendent I did not long ago. Magnolia wood. leaf2 006.jpg

Thanks for the lead Robert. I'll have to give it a try. It should speed things up.
