I have purchased a number of study sticks (more than my dear wife knows.) Most of them are quite helpful...some not so much so. What I would like to see is a set of sticks which show the sequence and methods of putting the parts together and include some written instructions. I can do good eyes, decent ears, mouths, noses. However, when I try to put them together in sequence, I sometimes find myself "cross threaded." I have cut part of the nose bridge out that I need for the eyes, have cut the smile lines too short or long for the nose and mouth. A set of sticks with parts that matched and B follows A type instructions sure would be helpful for us novices. If I could, I would make a set for faces...believe that they would sell. Gene Webb's wood spirit DVD and sticks are the best I have found (also my best project.) I got a number of CD's, a couple are pretty good, one is chaotic. If I knew what you know, I wouldn't be buying the sticks and CD.s. Thanks, Vanmack |

I agree with you about the way some study sticks are done. They are good for individual parts, but don't show how to put everything together, or when they do, some of them don't even use the same steps they show for the individual parts. What's funny is that the more you know, the more you can pick up the good things to buy... but you don't need them anymore... Well, it is not completely true of course because we always have something new to learn, and I found some nice book lately that show how to carve faces, and even how to do a study stick. I just wish I found these sooner, and didn't buy the other ones that are not so good. Good study sticks are these from Skylar Johnson. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gilles
