Like many things about carving, there is usually more than one way to get results. There are also several different types of moss. I often create the effect of moss with paper mache, then add color after the mache dries.

Hi Len,
Well, are you wanting to make it or make a carving look like it has moss on it? Several years ago, Wildfowl Carving had an article that showed moss carved onto the base of a carving. Basically, you just leave the area raised slightly, then use your Dremel or power carver and a small ball and small diamond pointed bit and just drill holes all over it. Painting it to make it look realistic is the trick.

Is that what you meant?

Do you think this would work for moss on trees?

Len,
I don't know your location, but you should be able to buy it from most craft stores like Holly Lobby.
