I'm lucky enough right now that I'm remodeling my whole basement shop...I've got a shed in my back yard, but it needs a new roof--and it's down 32 stairs...so I keep my big tools down there. I'm setting my basement shop up for the smaller stuff--Scroll saw, glueing/assembly/finishing table, downdraft table for powercarving and sanding, and my dad is making me a carving bench...so until then, I'm carving on my lap or on my assembly table with a bench hook...

It is totally trashed...construction tools everywhere, but I'll post some photos when I've gotten it completed!

Chuck...... the paint box is a cheap Pine bare wood one from a building supply company, craft section. Works like a charm, but fills up too quickly! Guess it means I have too many paint bottles?

Hi Ho.....those lights keep the temperature just nice, no frost on the walls or ice skim in my drink.

Bandaid....the drink you see is Root Beer, no booze for me any more, especially when around tools. I can't spare the brain cells!!! LOL Doesn't mix well with the pain meds.

Bob (squbrgg),

Looks like a cozy setup. Is that one of those little model builder's table saws on your desk? Do you have dust collection for it and the scrollsaw beside the desk?

Root beer, well thats a good explanation.
A workshop is a great place to be, solitude, a chance to create something, Food for the soul. This afternoon sitting in my shop, it was raining and blowing outside, it made me appreciate my shop. Besides my carving students on Saturday, friends come over during the week, and we just carve and tell tall tales. Can't beat a work shop. Enjoy seeing the photos of others shops, I guess carvers are a lot alike the world over.

I finally took some pictures of my shop. Its 24’x20’, stuccoed like the house and has a window type A/C mounted high on the East side. I built and equipped it for general wood working before I started carving. Not sure if you can make it out in the pictures but my wife gave me the sign when I retired. As you can see it’s crowded but many of the tools are on casters and I have a small shed where I can store some of them when not needed. It’s usually tidier than now but I’m in the midst of making Christmas presents and things sort of get strung out. As youcan see our fall is getting underway which means I can turn off the A/C and open the garage type door.
Until I retired I worked in garage and basement areas so it’s really a luxury to have a separate shop. It’s really interesting to see every ones shop.
Thanks, Ed

Mikeg ...... ya, that's a Jim Brynes original. Jim hand builds them, mostly for ship modellers, and they are far superior to the mass produced models you'll see advertized. (more powerful, better engineered, smoother cutting, two table guides).

On the right side of the desk is one of his thickness sanders, for smoothing my own planks. The big bandsaw cuts up the tree, the small table saw rips the planks and the sander smooths them. Pretty slick! Beats waiting 3 - 6 months for an order of model size planks.

No need for a dust collector on the saw, doesn't create much, and a quick swipe with a shop vac does the trick. The sander has a vent built in to attach the shop vac hose.

He has just started building a small modellers bench disc sander too that I'm eye'ing.

Bob, really interesting on the custom built saw! That's nice.

Ed: Nice shop. Are those custom boxes you have built on the table?
