| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Ok, I now have a serious case of shop envy (I'm still a closet carver). Thanks for sharing pictures everyone. Got's some great organizational ideas, not that I would need them. I'm always so neat and tidy.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Well, I ain't posting any pics of my "shop". It's a multi-grunge dungeon in the back of the basement. Alongside my saws and lathe, are several disassembled gas power tools on the floor, a seldom used weight bench in the middle of the floor, three carvings, started but somehow now covered in a few other mechanical projects, and assorted mechanic, woodworking and carving tools scattered on top. Hmmmmmmmm.......wonder why no pictures? I won't even let my good friends down there!

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) I have a shop also, but even though I have two large dust collectors, its always covered in dust. Clean and organized, pictures of your shops, it gives me a complex. Grin |

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Well, all the comments on "non-spiffed up" workshops led me to take some pictures of mine. Since I have taken over the sun porch of our house, my wife occasionally moves through there like a giant vacuum cleaner. It is nice to have a clean shop.....for a short time, but things do disappear. What puzzles me most is that I cannot identify anything missing. I ask, "Where is my ____?" And she, with some unidentified feat of prestidigitation, makes it appear. All of it could not possibility have fit into my storage. What's missing?
Anyway, the carving porch overlooks the fields and woods of the ranch. I am often distracted by deer, the occasional elk, fall colors, spring flowers....maybe I better build a carving shop without so many windows! Actually, I am drawing up plans to build a studio once the house we are building is finished.
I have tried carving on various benches and on a woodworking table; but, was not satisfied with any of them. Now, I carve on two benches designed for contractor's saws and such. They are relatively cheap, not too large, adjustable for height, and easily repositioned. |

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Tony, Yes they are the casts from marv.
I really like them. I dont have time to spend at my local club to learn so I am mostly self taught. When I got them I saw things with the cuts I never saw in the book. Also having it at your side while carving helps out alot. At least it does for me.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) After a little tidying up, I figured a couple of pictures would be in order. Darn dragon scales get everywhere! Not much time for such niceties....have a ship to get done for a display. The photos don't do the lighting justice, but down here in the dungeon, without any daylight, it could be worse.
Looking at some of your shops, I am seriously wishing for a sun porch!!!
