| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Hey! Never pass up a chance to brag about my shop.
Photo 1: This is it! It's about 28X40'. The carport shelters my truck, my firewood, and I store my larger pieces of wood under it. There's an inside garage back there where I keep my lathe and dust system. The red building is my Gallery.
Photo 2: Here's all my major equipment. 10" Table, 10" Radial Arm, 6" Jointer, and a 12" Bandsaw barely visible on the left. That stove keeps the place toasty.
Photo 3: From the other end. My carving station in the middle by the window. Painting station is in back corner. The white pipes coming down from the ceiling is my dust system, hooked up to all major tools. Dust is dumped in a barrel in the garage.
Photo 4: Workbench with latest carving, Lots of storage in those cabinets.
Photo 5: Piles of reference material, a drill press and in the back corner a TV and computer station. I have a router up at the house with enough range to where I can link up in the shop. Saves running up the hill to check a photo or read the latest forum posts. Airconditiioner behind the stove.
You can see I keep my shop clean too. One thing I promised myself when I retired was to have a nice place to work. I think I've got that promise pretty well covered.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Hi Lynn, I knew you would have a sweet shop setup by the little glimpses I've seen in some of your pics & on your web site.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Have a 10x16 building, 4' front porch, so carving area is 10x12. Big enough, but sometimes I wish it was just a bit bigger. It heats and cools easily because of the small size, insulated just like a house. |

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Here are some pictures of my shop. Since there are some narrow minded people around that won't let me drive anymore I still get half the garage for my work area. There are also some of my shop help.
By the way the picture of the vise area you will see a new project. This is the logo from the guide dog school I attended. I thought I would do a relief carving for them as a show of appreciation. Good idea I think.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Wow, you all have really nice shops, and I'm kind of ashamed that mine is too messy to show you a picture of. I'll have to clean it up this week and get organized.
I'm really enjoying this thread, Tony, thanks for starting it.
Oh, and Ron, I know you are incredibly skilled and I admire your tenacity, but I have to ask, do you operate the band saw yourself? I am so impressed! and a little scared.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Thor I do not attempt to run the saw anymore. Not enough vision left. I have a friend that cuts my stock for me on my saw. I used to swing my camera over to the saw and watch the monitor and cut but even that is scarry now.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) I am jealous... but then again at 35 with an 8 year old and 5 year old, Daddy does not get toys yet. So I might post a pic of my workbench where I do most of my work... the coffee table is a close 2nd.... no power tools to show off YET.

| | Re: Showoff your shops & studios (pics) Hey Ron, I hope you keep us updated on your project. I like the graphic and look foreward to following along.
Hi Sean, I started carving 14 years ago at 29 with a five year old son and a baby on the way. For the first five years or so I carved at the shop where I work an hour or two before work and on my lunch breaks. (kept my tools in a drawer) It wasn't until the last five years I started aquiring my larger equipment infact this is my first real shop. (finally got a house with a garage)
...anyway show us your work bench, we all started somewhere too.
Thanks Thor I'm enjoying it too. Can't wait to see your shop all ceaned up (grin)
btw I just cleaned mine out today
Mark A- impresive shop space, great sharpening station pic (from more power sharpeners thread) and beautiful carvings from your web site.
@Bob in TN, Thats a great studio space . I like it!
Hey Ken if I close my eyes real hard I can almost see it...just kidding it sounds like a great place to work. grab a camera
