I love it!!!! Love to go camping and looking for a good hobbie while I"m not fishing. I have been messing around with wood for a long time. The price of wood is getting expensive. So I think carving is where its at. I cut about 10 cords of wood a year for the house and always find pieces that I say shouldn't go in the stove. I am trying to find ways to take these gems and make treasures. I saw a show on tv that made bowls out of a die grinder with a chain saw blade and sander blades. well I started google searching and found this site. I am totally in love site. I want to go out and buy things to carve but I need to do one project at a time. like I say i would like to make things from my wood pile
How do I start carving at a campsite easy and friendly. AKA cheap and easy??

Here's toolrack 2.0. Found the darker plywood front/back panel at the dump, cut it in half and built the rack around it.

I’ve posted this rack before but thought it might be useful to do again. This is an adaptation from one Dave Stetson has in his studio. There are small magnets in the back of the upper part of the tool holder. I know, some think that the magnet will magnetize the tools and they will hold particles of steel from the stones and hone when sharpened. I’ve never had any trouble with this and all of these tools have been sharpened many, many times. I have some more modifications planned (casters for one, as this dude is heavy when making room for other activities) and we have the plans almost finished for a box, using a similar rack, to tote the tools when carving away from home. Maybe not the best design but it works for me as it is the right height so everything is in easy reach when I’m sitting in my Windsor chair.
My little carpenter thought you might like to see his tool box too.

I give up. the forum says image size is 700 x 500 and photoshop says smaller. The first one went and it was same size as others.
Ah Well

Cool Re: Show me your tool rack(s)

This thread certainly has legs and I am glad .......... have been following with great interest since more organizing is required around here.

Stop me if you have heard this before .... "everything old is new again"

Okay ..... continuing on: I was looking at a "shaving horse" idea something like the ones posted previously by "Hi Ho" and/or "The Whizz" plus incorporating the Aussie Bushman idea from "Blinky Bill". Well, while browsing my local flea market, a "two headed horse" jumped out from a Fine Woodworking Magazine dated circa 1983.

Upon further review of The Whizz's PictureTrail site, that same "two Headed horse" jumped out again (missed it before).

That is enough serendipitity for today ..... must go lay down now .....
