| | Re: Show me your tool rack(s) Thomp,
Look at response #8 of this thread for a better view of the commercial version of the carousel, "The Bucket Box". It's called that because it is sold in a 5- gallon covered plastic pail like the kind that joint compound comes in.
Best regards,

| | Re: Show me your tool rack(s) So here is my gouge rack/case.
I still have to add hinges, a latch and a handle of some sort.
The hinges will be of the "lift off" type whereby I can take the side wings off the center section as desired.
I am thinking a leather handle, like those used on campaign trunks, but truthfully, this bad boy is HUGE.
It will hold up to 60 mallet-size gouges.
It will really be more for storage that travel.
The rack will stand behind me in my shop, held in place with the center section held between in the dogs on the top of a Workmate.
That way I can turn around and get what I want without having everything spread across my very llimited bench space in my very limited workshop.

| | Re: Show me your tool rack(s) Attached are a couple of images of my finished gouge rack.
It will hold 60 gouges and chisels.
Intentionally overbuilt, the doors are hung on lift-off hinges.
They will be stored (other than for the purpose of these images) under my bench to conserve space until needed, as I acquire more gouges.
With so little room in the shop my gouges previously had to be laid out on a shelf in the next room until an individual gouge was needed. Now they all stand at-the-ready, immediately behind me as I work on the bench. All I have to do is turn around and whichever gouge I want, it's right there.

Nice looking and good ideas. Lets see.........minimum $33 each X 60= but who's counting huh? It's smart leaving growth room.
I really don't need anymore tools but believe me I'm not going to let that stop me. I have the "Tool Bucket" and like it a lot. May have to buy another one.

| | Re: Show me your tool rack(s) Bob, didn't you have the bucket at the Bishop class last year? I think Denny Nuebauer had one also. James, who set at on my left had a carosel tool holder he made himself and the cover was I believe oak and walnut. Very impressive.
Russel, excellent rack. With my limited space, To Big. I like it though. |

| | Re: Show me your tool rack(s) Yes Kenny, I did have the bucket tool holder. I really like it as I've said earlier and in several threads. It's a great way to haul several tools in a small space and user friendly as you can it on top of your tool box sitting next to you on the floor as I did at Bishop's class. I was going to make one for myself and put it a purchased paint bucket. I started figuring what it would cost me to make one compared to buying one. I bought it.

| | Re: Show me your tool rack(s) Thanks Thomp for your post on 6/09/07 with the tip of using "Ice Tube Trays" because they certainly are very handy and are just the ticket for "racking up your tools" for carving right in front of you as well as transporting to other locations. One is not enough, so its off to Wal Mart to get some more. Thanks again. Don |
