Default Red Oak Bracing Table

Hi All:
Talking Well just had to 'crow' a bit! My hubby made a bracing table for me to use while working on my reliefs. Ms Smile What a man!Ms Smile
It's based on Susan Irish's table the only difference is the type of wood and mine is 1 inch wider. Here is a link to Susan's table http://www.carvingpatterns.com/brace.htm I think he did a really nice job. So I wanted to show it off--oh and it works too. LOL
Thanks for looking,
Kathy

Tell the 'man in da house" that he did a nice job with the bench hook! Those things are as handy (and as essential) as is my shaving horse... just something that I couldn't live without!

I made a couple of bench hooks for my woodshop class where the kids are always carving on something. Really simple, I just cut out a piece of 1/2" plywood about 2' X 1' then glued/screwed a 2" X 1" strip of pine to the bottom for the "hook". I completed it by gluing/screwing a 1" X 1" strip of pine on each side of the top for bracing the project.

It's amazing how many handy uses that can be found for the bench hook besides just carving too and especially in a woodshop.

Using the same measurements and materials as listed above I have also made several "lap boards" for carving which serves as a safety block between the legs and knife when carving freestyle... which I often do on my sofa! They are mandatory with the kids if not using a vice or carving toward the bench. I also cut out a little carrying handle on these.

Thanks for sharing one of the handiest little devises ever!

Kathy -
Thanks for showing the table to us! I've been looking at plans for a "bench hook" but having a hard time visualizing the finished product - now it's all very clear!! What's that about one picture is worth .....(I'll let Hi Ho finish this one - hehehe)

Great job........

Another tip when using yours, sometime I just don't like carving with it laying flat, so I stick a small 2X4 piece under the front to raise it up angled towards me, the 2" adjustment, gives me a better perspective.

I was trying to find a pattern for a "cam lock" you drill holes in the bottom, put your work piece in and the camlock will keep your work positioned and not moving around..........but alas...couldn't find it! I have a hard copy somewhere..........ummmm somewhere? Sad
