Flouresents tend to be in the blue/green wave length of light. Incandesent are more toward the red. A mix of the two give you more of a natural light. Flouresents tend to fill in shadows more than incandesents. For painting we found OX-lights at Costco for $19 Anna has one on her painting table Says she will never go back to regular bulbs again.

After much research and gabbing with anyone I could, I put in 8 pairs of 8 foot florescents, plus 6 pot lights with 100 watt dispersing spots (eliminate the strobe effect with the saw). I also have an OTT Lite at my carving bench. Plus I have 7 large windows and french doors. Lots of good light. There are 9 1/2 ft ceilings with 600 sq. ft. of floor space. Only problem I have is the humming from the florescents. It's kinda like the water torture (drip, drip, drip). And I am more than 1/2 deaf. Gotta come up with something else. Tom H

"Sounds" like you need to change the ballasts in a few of those lights. Not a hard job. Wish I had a nickle for all the ballasts I have changed in 30 years as an electrican.

Goody, Thanks for the advice. Next time a check comes in the mail I'll start replacing ballasts. Thats cannot be too compicated. Tom H

I went with the electronic ballast instead of the transformer type, no hum. I have heard them singing at times, another story!
