Default Quick Stick Brace

So, I'm taking a break from the oakman and went on to a stick that I owe a good carving buddy. It's the Food Chain topper that I'm working on and I wanted the stick rough and tumble to match the primitive style of topper carving.

Now, Mike usually does my walking sticks for my topper but this one is for me to do. I've already cut it on the bandsaw and then used the draw knife with the stick in the large shop vice. But I could only get to about 1/2 of the stick at a time ... Mike found a quick and easy solution for me ... He took the stick up to the back porch, set it on the railing with the butt end against a post and clamped it in two places.

I have full access to the whole stick and can now finish dressing it down in preparation for the vine carving. Opps, forgot to say that with the butt end against the post I have a great strong brace to lead into.

The old cast iron table saw in our shop wheighs 1000 lbs. We clamp stock to the top and pull like crazy with our draw knives and spoke shaves. No one has moved that saw yet and I don't want to mess with the person that could. It took five of us to get the saw in the shop. The saw has a neat history as it was the saw used in the Cooper shop at The Calvert Distillery. It has cut the Oak Staves for many a whisky Barrel. Skarie Saw has offered me three times what I paid for it but I won't sell it (Actually we just don't want to move it again).

Dang Goody!!! Movin' that kind of stuff around.......no wonder your knees bother you. If I sold it, I'd make the buyer agree to move it also.

Whatever works! Clamping it down or making the buyer move the saw.
