Default Plunge Cuts

I started this yesterday and I wanted to post a picture of it at this stage to show the rotted wood. The rotted wood is around 2” deep but the rest is nice sound red oak. This will be another eagle killing a snake. I saw a woodcarver in Saint Augustine FL that used auger bits and a reciprocating saw to make plunge cuts in the wood. He may be a member now for all I know I was struck by his use of bold large holes in his sculptures. He didn’t use a chainsaw he used a reciprocating saw to connect the holes to make dynamic stylized figures fast. I use a chainsaw to do both jobs drill and cut, but if you are skittish with a chainsaw try a drill and a reciprocating saw. The plunge cut will allow you to remove huge chunks of waste wood.

Don, I have never done any chainsaw carving nor any stylized pieces. This is an interesting concept to me and might give it a try on some cherry limbs that I have. Thanks for getting me thinking in this direction.
