Tsk, Tsk, Tsk...you half-empty glass people are so negative. You have to think positive. I never say I can't draw; I just say I can draw, but not very well...

Claude is absolutely right!

And, even those of us who can draw often use lines as guides for symmetry or some sort of alignment. Your process is great.

If it works, do it!

Since I can't draw worth a hoot - I make my patterns on graph paper. That makes is simple to have matching sides or equal lenth arms.
And graph paper makes it simple to do a SIDE pattern that matches the front one.

LOL!! Larry, the only two things between me and world-wide carving fame are
1) lack of drawing talent
2) lack of carving talent
3) lack of practice due to full-time job
4) problem counting...

Very true Claude! I had a great woodshop teacher back in high school, his name was Mr. Delson, he had a saying "Don't say you can't, say you will try" I now say that to my kids all the time

I've drawn for years...but as Claude says... not very well. That's why I could never become a serious artist. So... I keep a pad of graph paper close by. The scale of 1/4 in. works well for me.
