thanks kenny,

well wives have a way of getting what they want, i started for a 3 car garage knowing one bay for me one hers and one for whatever.
but a big all metal building without slab was $7000.00
and needing footing iron in the slab 71/2 yards of redimix and someone to stur it and make it flat ... well to say the least it wasnt going to happen on out megar leftovers.

yes i was crowded from the start in this house and ive did hobbies in every room except the kitchen unless experimental peanut butter sandwiches counts,

the shop is biggest one this guy sold $2,100.00 and a play area for my grand son was included from the first day, i keep him 5 or more days a week, and he loves saw dust chips and wooden blocks. so he will be right at home with a security fence keeping him away from the tools.

thye quote for moving it is $50.00 this includes releveling , it will happen monday, ill feel some better i guess

I have one little tip for those of you who have a wife like mine who likes to store her stuff in the workshop/garage.
I don't leave any blank or empty spaces in the workshop, even if I have to use up the space with clearly label empty boxes.
so if i do get more "stuff" I eliminated one of the empty boxes.

my motto is "if she sees a space she'll use it"

heck yes, James,

ya got to keep them boxes so you can return the stuff you bought..

we did that in the service to increase inventory after a real blunder, that had to be corrected through the secondary supply lines, if it worked there
heck the wife ill never figure it out till she comes out to visit and sets on one of the boxes.....

guess then in your best apologetic voice you could say heck i thought it would work...

Thomp, My carving shop is much smaller then yours, (10x12) but to give myself as much light as possible, my entire interior is white/light. The floor is a light colored vinyl, the walls are white, and the dropped ceiling is white. I've got two 2'x4' light fixtures with 4 T-8 bulbs per fixture. The light just bounces around with the light colors, giving me a very nice light that produces very few shadows. I have a flex arm light on my bench for those mornings when I have trouble getting my eyes to open.

I would paint the entire interior, white! JMHO

Nawwwww!!!! Paint it brown so you never have to clean it.... or at least it looks like you never have to clean it! Ha! Ha! What did Robert Duval say in Apocalypse Now? "I love the smell of wood chips in the morning?"

Question Re: new shop, Q: how to orginize it?

Don't know what color it will be, the wife has lots of blue and white kills left over from painting the house,

but im thinking white oil base kills would be best, or battle ship Gray as most the plywoods already been painted im using on the walls behind the benches on the lower half.

after i turn loose the grandson with his finger paints ? what color is the 3 primary mixed again?

because of the lack of windows ill be paying for every bit of light i use. so white seams the most practical

i like the idea of the light color as most of the light except over the saws and carving bench will be florescent 2-4 lighting fixtures at least,

eddy,
I always said if i bought a new pickup it would be louisiana red clay color, because i wasn't buying it to keep it pretty, and the lord would provide the natural car washing.

i didn't even get outside to the shop today had a rough night, slept too late. it was too hot 100's, besides i cant move nothing in till Monday when it gets moved to a better situation for $50.00... which will provide room for an overhead shelter and a raised bricked patio out front. we need a party deck anyway 2 birds with one stone thing...

but i wanna get in there and get started on them cabinets down that 24 foot wall... 6 or 8 cabinets.
you can never have too much storage space, and tossed up shelves are just clutter catchers the cat cleans off for a new nap nest. (ya got to have rodent protection.
i keep making plans to see how to do it without wasting materials thinking 1/4" lian and pine 1x4 frame panels with 3/4" top liking to that of a kitchen cabinet set and counter top.. door fronts will be clear 1/16th" Plexiglas framed in 1x4 pine i got a ton of the stuff...
all adjustable shelving on 1/4" steel pins through the frames. shelves probably framed 1/2 skip sheeting...

I got the shop,
had it set down and leveled
Of course my decision cost me $50.00 to have it moved to where the wife wanted it.
but it will provide a better place for a patio, and over roof cover for both,

the heat is a killer, so i went to work on that problem and think i have overcome it for a bit. or at least till 3pm in the afternoon,
a 3 foot sealing fan

you cant drop nothing that weighs less than hammer without having to go in the yard to find it, but one thing its not hot in there...
