Flexcut knives are great starter knives. The're almost indestructible so they are a good knife for beginners. Just make sure that you have a good strop and compound to keep them sharp.

I have a Flexcut chipcarvers knife and a V tool that work fine, havent been at the carving thing for too long and only have a Helvie knife to compare it to, but have a background in tool grinding and sharpening so understand how toolsteels should hold up and perform.I was at a Dick Blick store that just opened in Paramus NJ,they had a small assortment of Flexcut tools there along with some other carving sets.Happy Carving.

I have several flexcut knives. The blades are thin, they are 'carving sharp' right from the factory, they stay sharp for a long time when carving basswood, and the handles are comfortable. I highly recommend them.

I bought the 4 pack from Woodcraft, and so far I have no complaints except the blade on my pelican knife pulled out of the handle, but I fixed it.

Finally got my knives, came on friday. Wow they are sharp and very comfortable to carve with.made alot chips just trying them out to get the feel for them. Found that I can hold on to them longer without fingers getting cramps (arthritus in them to many years bowling think lol) but they are very comfortable think found a tool that I can use for hours on end without hands and fingers cramping.
