I would think that you would want to carve two horizontal lines with a knife or v-tool leaving enough space in between to carve your beads. Those lines would need to be pretty deep so the wood that would carve into beads would stand out. You would then carve vertical lines wherever you would want your spaces between your beads. At that point, I would think that you would have squares spaced evenly. I would then work on rounding the squares starting with the corners until they are the shape you are looking for.
I'm not sure if this helps, but I would probably try something similiar to that......others who have more experience can probably offer up other suggestions.

| | Re: need a little help Are you talking about a bead shape carved into the surface of a board like moulding, or a 3-D in-the-round carving of a string of beads? |

| | Re: need a little help A simple way to add a string of beads is as follows:
1. Mark out where you want to bead string to go, with a double line spaced for the width of the beads.
2. Make a cut with a V-tool on each of the marks.
3. Next use a #8 or #9 gouge with an inside curve with the radius of the size beads you are trying to make.
4. Make a stab cut in each direction at the end of the first bead so that the curves of the radius touch.
5. Go to the other end of the bead and do the same.
6. Do this at the ends of all of the beads so that you now have a bunch of "Cs" back to back with a V-cut on each side.
7. Using the same gouge work the beads down until they are nice and round at each end and tight aginst each other. Some beads will be long and some just round so you have to clean up in between on the long ones.
I have been trying to load a picture of one of mine but have not been having too much luck.
