Default Jaw horse rides again. Dust collecting.

Well the Jaw horse rides again. I have a dust collector for my tools. I have been wanted to build something I could sit at while power carving. Especially when just grinding away waist. A few years ago I got a table top black plastic dust collator hood. I never liked it. It was too big, it took up most of my work area on my small work bench. I put on a top shelf and never really used it. But today I found a way to use it on my Jaw horse. I can work over it while seated with the foredom hooked on the jaw horse also and collect all the dust and waist I can grinded out. Then fold it up and put everything away. Do not put too much pressure on the dust hood with the Jaw horse. Just a little holds it securely. I can not beggen to tell you all the uses I have found for the Jaw horse.

Good use of it. If you go down to hardware store and buy a piece of hardware cloth (wire mesh), you can place it on top of the plastic, fold the edges over to hold it in place. Then, you won't have a problem with dropping your tools or wood by accident.

Good one Carvingbarn! I'm likin' mine too, although it lives on the balcony and it is way too hot to spend much time outdoors right now.

Woodcraft has a knock off on sale. Not sure about the quality level, but it looks pretty darn good for $50 less. I probably would have gone for it had it been available.

Buy Portamate Mega Vise at Woodcraft.com

Living in Mobile I understand hot out on the balcony. Before I got my shop I worked on the back porch. A fan and a mist bottle works for a while if you are in the shade.

I love mine! I like the dust collection thing. I have all kinds of hardware cloth too.
Have you guys tripped over the legs yet? Or maybe there's a reason my father in law used to call me Grace!

I have learnd to put the legs near the wall or on the side away from the way I come and go in the shop. Those legs are a foot trap.

Just bought the sawhorse on Sharon's advice, really like it. Did you build a hanger for the foredom or purchase it? I can't tell if its hung from up above or attached to the saw horse. Neat set up. What do you use for the dust collector and how satisfied are you with it, noise level, dust collection etc?

I have learned the hard way not to carve with bare feet when I'm using it! Actually I carve with my hands!
