OK...checked my mail...very exciting...inside was a toll catalog I had never received before...oooooo...it was all about carving and carving tools...OMG...hurray?!
Just now, as i was thumbing through it ...again...I saw a 'portable dust collector' This made me jump. I have been envisioning one for months. How can I sit here and not make a huge a** mess? Hmmm...
I tried carving right in front of my shop vac...could not control the hose...it sucked up EVERYTHING!
Then I saw a picture of a little laptop thingy that had a small sucking fan and a little collector bag. Said it was quiet...had to be quieter than the vac.
Needles to say, I wanted one mighty bad. The $79 stopped me reaching for my Credit Card. $79?! $79?!
THEN
I decided...I could do that!
Very rough, but it works great!
I have a small board with a rim...for stray bits.
A hole in the center with some old window screen stapled around it...again...for stray bits and small pieces....I think I will add a gouged out space for these things.
The whole was drilled with some forstener bits just the size of my vac hose. I wedge it in there nice and snug then I turn it on. Works GREAT! I sit on my porch in my rocker and whittle...lol...only with a vacume hose tangled around my legs! My Grandpa would roll his eyes I am sure! Or maybe scratch his chin and say..."Thats my girl...How clever! Why didn't I think of that?!"
Anyway...just an idea I wanted to share with you. Have a great night!
OH YEAH
I forgot to mention I have solved the noise problem too...I "Borrow" my husbands ear protectors...you know those bright orange ones for using chainsaws? Ha...Works great for shop va'cs too!
