yesterday,

i was in the mood to cut out some patterns of gnomes for tom h. from al streetmans gnome book,

I cut out various sizes of the patterns in the basswood he provided from 1-1/2" to 6" tall.. all of them went very nicely, as i did them on the scrollsaw with a fd polar 5 blade. mainly cause' I've still got a little fear of the craftsman 10" bandsaw i got for Christmas. im still a little green.

well all went well until i cut out the sheriff from Harold Enlow's book Carving Western Figures. for myself , but modified with the separate head, (because of big tex-mex thin brim and grain direction.) well you can see from the thumbnail

he is a right handed sheriff, but because of the orientation of the bigger 2x7x12" basswood block (i had other patterns located on) it as well, a little crowded, i put the pattern on my right edge of this big block, actually the side view wound up opposite from shown in the thumbnail.
because it was easy, then i cut out the block from the larger section of wood..

ok if you haven't figured it out, i got a left handed sheriff, a negative

now normally it wont make a bit of difference if the caricature is symmetric , but in this case the gun rig wound up on the wrong side,

when i peeled off the tape and popped out the sheriff it was a twilitezone(sp) moment until i figured this one out..
