Default Great new flap sander

Hi gang,
As usual this message board is a great source of information and tips. I just purchased a new flap sanding wheel that I thought I would share with you. Sells for approx $35.00 US and is great for larger carvings. It is called a Sand-o-matic it is approx five inches in diameter. There are a series of bristles that stick out from the wheel that are attatched to a spool of sandpaper. It can be used with any rotary tool such as a drill as long as you dont exceed 25000 revs. As the sandpaper wears down you unscrew the cap and pull on each strand until you have a new piece on each stem. I just finished my cougar in a log and it sanded and finished the entire carving and still the sandpaper isnt worn down completly. Now this carving was four feet tall and about twenty inches across. I give it a huge thumbs up well worth the money I paid for it already and it will still give me loads of sanding.
Colin

Yeah Colin, those are great. I've been using one for about 20 years and love them. I have one on an electric drill and one on a ststionary electric motor on the bench. The one on the electric motor gets used many times every day. The one on the drill is used on larger carvings that I can't hold up to the workbench.

I get mine from Woodworkers Supply but most of the WW catalogs have them or you can Google up Sand-o-flex. I have been using them for 20 years and they are great.

I got mine from Klingspore for $32.95 and they also have an adapter to a 1/2" grinder moter from the 1/4" one that comes with it, for $8.00 so you can hook it up like Lynn's setup. .
