Thanks so much Allen! Some credit for this goes your way. I used your knife sharpening setup to flatten the bevels. I just chucked a sanding pad in the drill. Someone else here mentioned a router controller (thanks!) and I used that to slow the drill down so I could do a nice slow grind on the blade without over heating it. The drill has variable speed but no lock so I locked the trigger using a hose clamp.

That sharpening setup is really great! Thanks for posting it on YouTube.

One caveat about doing this. If you cut the hook off the can opener on some SAKs, the blade will drop when closed and the cutting edge will hit the backspring. If you are unsure, better to leave it on.

Thanks Allen. That is one of the best shop tips I've ever come across. A very handy setup!

What particular model of SAK are you useing that allows you to cut off the hook? Guess I could try a couple three, but simpler to ask.

Ed, it's the 84 mm Victorinox Recruit. If you do it to a Tinker, they blade will drop way too far.

Thanks, a Tinker and Super Tinker is what I've got as my whittlers. I don't think I even own a recruit. Easy fix though. A quick email to felinevet will get me one.

Thanks again.

The bottle opener can be made into a usable wood chisel too.
