Default Frugal Carver's hooked skew

This is pretty simple to make from the can opener on a swiss army knife. Grind down the point, cut off the hook, and flatten the bevels. It really cuts well too!

I recently did the same thing to my swiss army knife except I left the hook, I may have to take another look and see if I want to remove it. Your right though I really like the way it cuts.

Hey, now that's a good idea. (as long as you don't need a can opener later.) And it looks like you've put a nice edge on it.

Thanks guys! The edge is very very sharp. it cuts deep and leaves a nice shiny cut with no scratches. I'm thinking of doing the screwdriver and making it into a bullnose chisel.

Excellent idea, Nomad! I have already re-shaped the two blades on my Victorinox "Officier" and was thinking of doing something with the can opener and screwdriver blades. I'll have to get on that right away.

One of the best modification tips I've seen in a while. Never thought of that. Thanks for the new "food for thought" and what I'm afraid will be certain future action!

I made the modification to mine this morning. It works great! I can't imagine how I did without a hooked skew before.

I also sharpened the screwdriver blade as a small chisel. The resulting pocket knife combo will be one of my favorites.

Thanks, Nomad, for the tip.

Thumbs up Re: Frugal Carver's hooked skew

I love woodcarvers, their some of the smartest folks in the world. Thanks Nomad, for posting ! Modifications have saved me a lot of money, I'm not "cheap", just "frugal".lol. I won a Flex-cut "Carvin Jack", but I had no use for the square chisel, so I ground approx.# 3 sweep in top, then rounded the tip.
I have a much more usefull tool from this modification, for the way I carve.
It was a fun challenge, aswell. Great job, I can see a lot of "light-bub's" comin' on from this sweet mod. on a good knife ! Allen
